Team Anglia GB v Manchester United

Saturday 17th April Team Anglia GB made history with their first competative game.  The test could not have been bigger as we welcomed Manchester United Amputee Squad for the league fixture.

United came out of the blocks quickly as expected and played some good possession football but the Anglian defence were solid and the team soon gelled to take control of the half with Captain Darren Mitchell see his shot rifle off the post.  Half Time 0 - 0.

Encouraged by the half time result and pleased with the amount of play the team had, the 2nd half was all to play for so a change in tactics to create more space and force more

open play paid off with chances hitting the bar and running along the line.  The team enjoyed chances from all over park but failed to find the target.  The more open play allowed United back into the game with some

clever football created from the counter attack, with one less defender supporting, Goalkeeper Ty was the hero stopping several shots from the United attack. The last 10 minutes was very end to end attacking football with both Goalkeepers putting on a great show of resistance and the defences working hard for the clean sheet.

Full Time Score 0 - 0.

With a full time result at 0-0 and both sets of players still buzzing from the game it was agreed by both sides to play 5 minutes of extra time each way.  The first half saw both teams playing with caution trying to ensure a clean sheet and catch the opposition on the break.  The first 5 minutes again ended in stale mate.  The 2nd half Anglia decided to go for the jugular and started gambling from around the park with one or 2 long range shots glancing the bar and both keepers working hard to maintain the clean sheet with United catching on the counter.  After once last push with all the Anglia players entrenched in the United half a clever challenge and clearance from the United full back into space found Uniteds front man Dave Tweed alone in space and 1 on 1 with the Keeper.  His class shone through as he cooly power a load drive ionto the far post, the ball beating the keep with the pace. 10 seconds later sounded the end of Extra time with the Honours going to United witha 1 - 0 victory.  This was followed by a penalty shoot out which Anglia won 4-3 to regain some pride.
